Bird specimens stored in natural history collections enable us to examine the moult and plumage of many individuals across geographical and temporal scales. In my study, I used museum specimens from 12 natural history collections as a basic and important data source. During my work, I examined tens of thousands of museum specimens and collected data on more than 10,000 individual bird moults. My database consists of unprecedentedly detailed data across five continents and over more than 200 years (since ~1800). This dataset helped me to study the effect of global warming over more than 200 years on the moult extent of passerines in the Palearctic region, a study that was published in Nature Communications (2019).
